Brief history about Bicol:
The Bicol region or Region V is one of the 17 regions in the Philippines. It is composed of 6 provinces; it includes Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon.
Roman Catholicism is the major religion in the region. It has one of the highest numbers of followers than any other area in the Philippines.
Our Lady of Penafrancia Fiesta honoring the Virgin Mary dubbed as the “Queen Patroness of Bicolandia” is one of the major fiestas honoring patron saints in the region every year. It is acknowledged that in Luzon, the Bicol Region holds the most number of men entering the seminary for Catholic priesthood and women entering the religious life to become Catholic nuns. Bicol is known to have some of the oldest and historical churches in the Philippines.
